Carrick’s athletic career has spanned football, rugby, endurance sports, and military service at the highest levels. Born into the world of coaching—his father was head football coach at Clemson and the University of Florida—Carrick grew up surrounded by elite athletes and developed a lifelong drive to push beyond limits.
He played football for Davidson College, where he earned AP Honorable Mention All-American honors as a freshman. When Davidson dropped to Division III, he declined a scholarship offer to UNC–Chapel Hill and instead enlisted in the U.S. Marines. His background in swimming and endurance sports helped him earn the coveted title of Recon Marine, serving four years and deploying in combat before an Honorable Discharge in 1993.
Carrick then pursued his dream of representing the United States in sport. In 1994 he earned a spot on Team USA for the World Duathlon Championship in Hobart, Tasmania, and was named a Team USA ambassador. He later shifted focus toward Olympic track cycling, targeting the 1996 Games in the 1,000-meter time trial.
At the same time, rugby became his enduring passion. He competed for elite representative sides including the USAF/Combined Services, West All-Stars, and Northeast All-Stars, while playing locally for Mystic River, the Boston Irish Wolfhounds, and Boston 13s. In 2004, he founded Gypsy Rugby Club, which has grown to more than 500 members worldwide. Since 2012, Carrick has led Babson College Rugby as head coach, guiding the team to two Division III National Championships and its recent elevation to Division I. In 2024 Carrick was recognized as the NCR Northeast All-Star Coach.
Carrick is based out of Needham, MA and trains out of his gym, and is available to travel to the local area. For more information on Carrick’s availability, please contact us.
